SHIRE: Employment Based Initial Teacher Training(EBITT) GTP (Graduate Teacher Programme)

ABOUT THE GT ROUTE

As a Graduate Teacher you will be employed as an unqualified teacher in a school and will follow an Individualised training programme leading to QTS (Qualified Teacher Status). The TDA (Training and Development Agency for schools) has introduced funding arrangements for the GT programme where  training salary support is made available to enable schools to take on GTs as supernumerary teachers

TRAINING

The Programme will normally take a full three term school year and will include taught sessions based at the Centre in Luton as well as training opportunities in the employing base school and in a second school.

-

 SALARY

The school is responsible for paying your salary while you train.

EMPLOYING SCHOOLS

You may already have a school which is prepared to employ you as a Graduate Teacher if you are successful in gaining a place with Shire. Alternatively, you may apply to Shire without a school and Shire will help to find you an employing school.  Please note that employing schools should normally be located within 25/30 mile radius of  Luton.

APPLICATIONS

The GTP is very competitive programme for places, so we advise that individuals apply as early as possible – we recommend candidates to apply in the Autumn term before the year of their GTP training.  Applicants should aim to gain as much experience as possible of working in a primary school prior to applying for a Graduate Teacher place.  GT candidates have an interview first with the Shire as the Training provider and, if successful, a second interview at their employing school

Please Note: GTP awards Qualified Teacher Status but graduates may find that the GTP route is not widely accepted overseas.

Shire is committed to safeguarding the welfare of children and expects all trainees to share this commitment. All those applicants offered a GT place will be required to undertake a CRB check.

Careful consideration is given to every applicant regardless of ethnic background, religion, age, disability or gender.

For more general information about Graduate Teacher training you are advised to consult the TDA wbsite : www.tda.gov.uk
